Have you ever wondered if technological advances would ever reach its glass roof? I mean, there must be an end to the amount of advances the Human Race can accomplish, right? Wrong! If the human spirit has proven anything over the course of history, it is that we do not give up easily, especially when something so drastic as going to the moon, reaching the deepest of oceanic depths, even stretching our influence to the stars is declared as technologically impossible. Granted, golf GPS technology is not going to take us to Mars at anytime in the future, but when technology in any field increases, so to does the development of nearly every single field currently on the market. Get ready, for some of these brand new features just might shock your socks right off of your feet!

When you are walking around a golf course, the last thing you want is for it to rain! But when you experience such a catastrophe, you need to be prepared to have all of the equipment ready and able to handle the shift in weather patterns. This and much more has been taken under consideration during the development of the more modern golf GPS systems. Recently, the majority of the companies offering golf GPS devices have started designing them with waterproof exteriors, as well as an extremely durable outer casing. This exterior design offers not only protection from the water and hail, but it also provides protection from the more accidental drops. For example, dropping my golf GPS unit on a rock and having it break into two pieces, or to be rendered useless, was a rather large fear and major stumbling block when considering whether or not to purchase one. Needless to say, when I say that they were designed the golf GPS systems with such a durable outer casing, I immediately started for the store!

Another feature that is truly remarkable is the Distance Sensory System. This technology, which has been derived from the consistent development of the regular, traveling gps technology, provides golfers with an extremely accurate count of how many yards they will have to traverse on a particular course, the distance reached by your previous stroke, as well as the overall game performance, telling you after you have played the game how many more yards in less time you were able to make. This information can also be downloaded onto your personal computer and stored on a program that comes with the golf GPS purchase. This, of course, also comes complete with a Digital Scorecard! This application is made possible by touch screen technology, which was originally developed by years ago in a field completely unrelated to GPS technology!

See what I mean!? Technology continues to develop; no matter what glass roof we think we have reached. Statistically, the human race requires twenty years of research before our entire sum of knowledge / understanding on how the world works doubles in quantity.

If there is one thing that people need to look at before purchasing a GPS for golf system, it is the features. Of course, before you can purchase anything, you must first understand what the included features will offer you! That is the point of this article, not to sell you on a particular brand of GPS for golf system, but to give you a brief overview of what features you should A) be looking for, and B) what they offer users while accessed.

The saying “what is really important is on the inside” really doesn’t apply here. Before you can fully rely on your GPS for golf system, you must make sure that it will stand up to the test of time and weather. Most GPS for golf systems are currently designed with a waterproof, durable exterior, equipped with strong materials that have been specifically engineered to outlast whatever abuse your golf game could dish out. Without an exterior casing such as this, you will not have a hope of using the software within it for very long.

Beyond the exterior, it is really important to find a GPS for golf system fully equipped with a preinstalled Base Map Directory. These directories should include either an entire listing or digital representation of the United States or North America. The better models include a cotenant’s worth of course mapping, but the even better GPS for golf systems offer free downloads / updates for an ever expanding base map.

Exterior durability, extensive map directory, both of these features provide an excellent enhancement of the game, not to mention an overall increase in enjoyment, but when it comes down to managing the game itself, only the Digital Scorecard / Game Analysis applications can do the trick. These two features offer a fully interactive game analysis, comparing your previous golf game stats with your current performance. This is done through an internal Distance Sensor, designed to accurately determine how far you have hit the ball, measuring the distance between your ball on the hall, or your ball and the tee, all of which are downloadable through its USB connection for further record keeping and game performance tracking.
